iPhone 6 Unveiled

On September 9, 2014, Apple held a wide anticipated event to unveil the newest iPhone, or iPhones in this case. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are the newest additions to the iPhone legacy. Here’s what the newbies bring to the table.

The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display and starts at $199 with a two-year contract. The iPhone 6 Plus boasts a 5.5-inch display and starts at $299. The devices come in gold, silver and space gray.

The newest iPhones have a design that’s rounder, larger and apparently easier to hold. Both devices are thinner and lighter than the iPhone 5. They have Retina HD display with about two times the resolutions of the iPhone 5 displays. More specifically, they have more than 2 million and 3 million pixels, respectively. Both new smartphones contain the next-generation A8 chip which contains 2 billion transistors. They’re also loaded with an M8 co-processor and a better battery.

The improved 8-megapixel camera comes with the True Tone flash, which changes color depending on surrounding light. The auto-focus is twice as fast and the panoramic photos now go up to 43 megapixels in size. The iPhone 6 Plus additionally comes with optical image stabilization.

The new smartphones will also come with a mobile payment feature, Apple Pay. The near-field communications (NFC) chip in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will allow users to use their phone to pay for products at certain stores, including Macy’s, Whole Foods and Duane Reade.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are available for pre-orders starting September 12 and will begin shipping September 19.
